Community Guidelines
Last updated: August 2026
Coqtail Hour is a creative community, not a corporation. We've kept this page as simple and honest as we can.
Coqtail Hour is a creative community and experiential design studio, run by Sama and Jacqueline. We host pop-up events and gatherings in the Bay Area, New York, and online programs open to people anywhere in the world. Questions about this page can be sent to coqtailhour@gmail.com.
What we are building for
A room where you can share the messy first version. Where friendship seeds get planted and someone knows what you're making well enough to ask you for updates. This is an anti-performance space. We are here to learn from each other and deepen our connections to creativity and community.
These guidelines exist to protect this room.
For everyone
Be generous with attention. The best thing you can do here is be curious about someone, their experiences, and their work.
Critique when it's asked for, and always about the work. If someone shares something without asking for feedback, they want to be witnessed, not workshopped.
Assume good faith. People are writing quickly, in second languages, across a dozen time zones. Read generously.
Don't use us as a lead list. Making friends, finding collaborators, and hiring people you met here is wonderful. Working a room, pitching in DMs, or joining primarily to sell something is not.
Tell us what you need. Access requirements, dietary needs, a heads up that you're nervous walking into a room alone. We'd rather know, and take steps to help where we can.
At in-person events
Come if you said you would. Most of our workshops sell out with people on the waitlist. A no-show is a seat someone else wanted. If you can't make it, tell us and we'll release it.
Arrive on time. Workshops start when they start, and latecomers miss the instructions.
Look after the space. We're usually guests in someone else's studio, shop, or home. Leave it better than you found it.
Bring what the event asks for. Art swaps only work if everyone brings something.
Some events are 21+ and we'll say so on the listing. Drink at your own pace, look out for each other.
We take photos and video. If you'd rather not be in them, tell us at the door or afterward and we'll leave you out.
In our online space & cohort
What's shared in a community space stays in that space. Don't screenshot, repost, or share anything from inside a Coqtail Hour space without asking the person first. This is the one that matters most.
Show up for your small group. They're the people who'll notice if you go quiet. That's the point, and it only works if it's mutual.
Guest sessions are recorded for cohort members. Small groups, co-working and show-and-tells never are. Recordings stay inside the program. Our guests agree to be recorded on that basis.
What isn't okay
If something feels off
mail us at coqtailhour@gmail.com, tell us at an event, or DM either of us in the space.
You don't need to be certain and you don't need a formal complaint. If something felt wrong, we want to know. We'll always talk to you before taking any action involving you.
What happens if there’s an issue
Usually a conversation. Sometimes a warning. Occasionally we'll ask someone to leave an event, a program, or the space, and for paid programs that doesn't come with a refund.
We'd rather never do this. Writing it down makes it much easier to handle well if we ever have to.
We reserve the right to remove anyone from an event, a program, or a community space whose behavior is harmful, exclusionary, or makes others feel unsafe. For paid programs, removal for this reason doesn't come with a refund.
We're building a community based on genuine belonging, and that only works if everyone who shows up protects it.
