Coqtail Hour is a creative community, not a corporation. We've kept this page as simple and honest as we can.
Who we are
Coqtail Hour is a creative community and experiential design studio, run by Sama and Jacqueline. We host pop-up events and gatherings in the Bay Area, New York, and online programs open to people anywhere in the world. Questions about this page can be sent to coqtailhour@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
When you RSVP to an event, join our newsletter, or fill out an interest form, we collect your name and email address. We use this to send event announcements, community updates, and our newsletter.
When you register for a paid program like the Global Creative Cohort, we also collect your city or country, which track you've chosen, and anything you share about your creative practice. We use this to place you in a small group and to run the program. Payment is handled by Luma and their payment processor, Stripe. We never store your card details.
When you join one of our community spaces, anything you post there is visible to other members of that space.
We don't sell your information. We don't share it with third parties for marketing, unless we have your express permission for specific collaborators.
Where your information lives
We use a small number of tools to run things, and each has its own privacy policy you're welcome to review:
- Luma — event registration, ticketing, payments and email
- Tally — interest and signup forms
- Google Workspace — interest and sign up forms and our creative pen pal directory
- DFOS (Dark Forest OS) — our community space, where members chat, share work, and access resources, events, and groups
- Metalabel — where we publish collaborative creative releases
If you'd like to be removed from our list at any time, email us or click unsubscribe in any email we send you.
Community spaces and member directories
Some of our programs include a shared online space and a member directory. If you take part, other members will be able to see your name, whatever you choose to add to your profile, and anything you post.
Only add what you're comfortable with other members seeing. You can edit or remove your directory entry at any time, and you can leave a space whenever you like.
What's shared in a community space stays in that space. Members often post unfinished work. Please don't screenshot, repost, or share anything from inside a Coqtail Hour space without asking the person who posted it first.
Photography, recording, and consent
At in-person events, we take photos and video for social media, our website, and marketing. By attending, you acknowledge you may be photographed or filmed. If you'd rather not be included, tell us at the event or afterward and we'll remove it.
In online programs, guest sessions are recorded and shared with members of that program. If you'd rather not appear, keep your camera off and use the chat. Small group meetings, co-working sessions and show-and-tells are never recorded.
Recordings are for members of that program only. Please don't share or repost them outside it. Our guests give us their time on that understanding.
Our collaborators — venues, workshop partners, guest hosts — don't receive attendee contact details unless we've told you at registration that they will, and given you the chance to opt out.
Your creative work
Your work is yours. You keep full copyright and ownership of anything you make during one of our programs.
If you choose to submit work to a collaborative release, you give us permission to publish it as part of that collection — on Metalabel, on our website, and in promotion of the release — always with credit to you, for as long as the release exists. You can withdraw any time before we publish. Submission is always optional.
We'll ask for this permission again, specifically, at the point you submit.
Paid programs
Refunds. For the Global Creative Cohort: full refund any time before the season starts, no questions asked. Once a season begins we can't offer refunds, since guest honoraria and group placements are committed — but email us anyway and we'll offer a credit toward the next one. Drop-in session tickets are non-refundable but can be exchanged or transferred; just email us before the session.
What may change. Guest lineups and session dates can shift. We announce guests as they're confirmed, and if a session moves or a guest can't make it, we'll tell you as soon as we know and replace it with something equally good.
Age Restriction. You must be 18+ to register for our online programs. Some in-person events are 21+ and we'll say so on the listing.
Members outside the US
We're based in the United States, and the tools we use store data there. By joining, you understand your information will be processed in the US. If you're in the EU or UK and would like your data corrected or deleted, email us and we'll take care of it.
Conduct
We reserve the right to remove anyone from an event, a program, or a community space whose behavior is harmful, exclusionary, or makes others feel unsafe. For paid programs, removal for this reason doesn't come with a refund. Our full community guidelines are [here].
We're building a community based on genuine belonging, and that only works if everyone who shows up protects it.
